For OPX12 I got 
as my giftee! Request 1: "FANTASY/MYTH/LEGEND - Strawhats of your choice on the Journey To The West (Hsiyu-chi)"
Since I never read Journey to the West I used the Dragon Ball analogy to pick the characters: Luffy = Goku = Sun Wukong and Nami = Bulma = Xuanzang/Tripitaka. Well, Luffy was pretty obvious, but after checking wikipedia I'd say Nami was a good match for Xuanzang, too. The second half of the group consists of Chopper "I'm a reindeer not a pig" as Zhu Bajie and Usopp as Sha Wujing because his crescent moon shovel reminds me of Kabuto.
It was a BITCH trying to find references for their costumes so I ended up mish-mashing multiple designs together (same for the palace).
